Zero to Frozen ATPL
course contents
Flying Time Aviation offer one of the most competitive and comprehensive course packages in the industry for Zero experience to frozen Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL).
The minimum qualification that a European airline would require from a prospective First Officer is a JAA Commercial Pilot Licence with a JAA Frozen ATPL. To achieve this various modules need to be completed. The European Licence can normally easily be converted to that of another country if required.
The ATPL would become un-frozen when the flight experience requirements are met. The experience would normally be achieved during employment as a first officer.
The modules are:
The duration of the whole course from zero experience is between 18 and 24 months.
The total cost for EU students is £47,590.00 inc vat and airport fees. If you require a Tier 4 Student Visa please see our Immigration Guidance for International Students for the course price including the visa administration costs. The price is based on completing the course in minimum hours and does not include CAA and Test fees.
Our zero to fATPL course has been designed to deliver the training required, in the most efficient and practical manner. This is achieved by using the most appropriate aircraft and simulators for the different stages in the course.
Our modern aircraft fleet is powered by Thielert engines which operate with FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) that ensures maximum fuel efficiency. The engines consume the more economical Jet fuel instead of the traditional and expensive AVGAS that is normally used on training aircraft. The cheaper Jet fuel, coupled with the high efficiency of the FADEC system, ensures lower operating costs. This enables us to provide our courses at very competitive rates.
In Europe the United Kingdom is normally the country that students would choose to do their training due to the following main reasons:
With the above mentioned, the student knows that by experiencing the flight training in the United Kingdom he/she will be part of a group of pilots which are one of the most comprehensively trained in the world.
By choosing Flying Time Aviation as your training provider you will gain all the advantages that training in the UK offers, plus more.
Flying Time Aviation provides commercial flight training to the highest standards coupled with one of the most modern fleet of training aircraft in the world.
Our aircraft are maintained in accordance with stringent European regulations.
At Flying Time Aviation we pride ourselves on the following:
In order to benefit from the quoted price the course must be completed by using one of the 3 payment options listed at the end of this brochure and completing the course using the following structure:
Aircraft used: Piper PA28
Duration: 2 to 3 months
The student will learn the basic manoeuvres required to safely operate the aircraft on the ground and in the air in normal and abnormal situations.
The instructor will initially ensure the student can safely manoeuvre and fly the aircraft within the vicinity of the airport, performing take-offs, climbs, turns, descents and landings, along with use of all essential flying controls, safety and radio procedures.
The course is completed with the required element of solo flight, advanced aircraft handling, practice drills for simulated emergencies, navigation exercises that culminate in solo cross country flights.
During the course there is also an element of theory, consisting of classroom work and self study, requiring 7 theory exams to be completed. A radio practical test has also to be passed.
Once the flight course is completed the candidate will have to successfully complete the PPL flight skill test.
Aircraft used: Piper PA28
Duration: 1 to 2 weeks
The aim of this course is to teach the student how to operate the aircraft during official night time. It is a short course and a test is not required upon completion.
Duration: 6 months
This is a theory course that is divided into 3 sections. This course is designed to teach the students all the theory that is required in order to safely and professionally operate aircraft in a commercial environment. After every section the examinations are held at the CAA in Gatwick.
There are 14 subjects:
Section 1
5 exams are sat at the CAA after this section
Section 2
4 Exams are sat at the CAA after this section
Section 3
5 Exams are sat at the CAA after this section
Aircraft used: Piper PA28 and Diamond DA40
Duration: 2 to 4 months
During this phase the student will increase their confidence and flight experience which will develop their decision making as commander of an aircraft.
The experience gained is necessary to meet the minimum hours required for the ME CPL module.
150 flight hours are required before starting the ME CPL module.
Most of the flying during this period will be completed solo with the guidance of an instructor. The last few hours will be completed in a Diamond DA40 in order to prepare the student for the next module.
During this module the student will be flying to different airports using different routes.
Aircraft used: Diamond DA40, Diamond DA42 and DA42 simulator.
Duration: 1 to 1.5 months
Upon completion of the commercial aviation course the candidate will have acquired the necessary skills to commercially operate single and multi-engine aircraft to the standards required and be in a position to be tested for a MEP CPL (Commercial Pilot Licence).
Course content:
Aircraft used: Diamond DA42 and DA42 simulator.
Duration: 1.5 to 3 months
During this course the student will learn how to fly the aircraft by sole reference to instruments under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR).
The student will learn how to commercially and safely operate the aircraft in controlled airspace during normal and abnormal operations. This part of the course is deemed to be one of the most challenging.
The student will also learn how to operate and use complex systems like the FMS, FADEC, A/P, de-icing & anti-icing systems and air-data computer.
Course content:
Aircraft used: Citation XLS (or similar) simulator
Duration: 2 weeks
This course is designed to train pilots to work in a multi-crew environment. It teaches pilots how to operate an aircraft as pilot flying and pilot not flying and to share tasks and duties during normal and abnormal operating procedures.
The course comprises of sessions in an advanced jet simulator and theory classes.
This course is the last course a pilot would complete before joining an airline for type rating.
