Flying Time Aviation offers an extremely competitive and comprehensive route to a commercial ME-IR or Multi Engine Piston (MEP) Instrument Rating.
Courses are provided from our extremely well-equipped flying school/academy in Shoreham.

The JAR Multi Engine / Instrument Rating Course provides the training required for a candidate to obtain the JAR Instrument Rating in a multi-engine aeroplane. The qualified pilot may fly an aircraft under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) in controlled airspace.

A Private or Commercial Pilot Licence issued in accordance with ICAO Annex 1 with a night qualification |

|
Hold a MEP rating |
|
|
Hold a current JAR class 1 medical certificate |
|
|
Passed a course of theoretical instruction as set out in the JAR-FCL |
The course will be completed on a DA42 TwinStar and an ALSIMTM DA42 FNPTII (Flight Navigation Procedures Trainer) both with Garmin 1000 EFIS displays.
The course includes:

Precision and non-precision instrument approaches |
|
|
Missed approach procedures |
|
|
Standard instrument departures |
|
|
Joining and flying an airways system |
|
|
Standard instrument arrivals and emergency procedures under IFR conditions |
The final part of the training is a formal skill test rehearsal (a 170A test), followed by the skill test.
The course comprises:

35 hours minimum of dual instruction in the ALSIMTM FNPTII flight simulator |
|
|
15 hours minimum of dual instruction in the DA42 |
|
|
A further 5 hours training in the simulator is required for PPL holders |
Training is full-time or part-time. The full-time course lasts between 8 and 12 weeks depending on weather conditions and candidate skill level.
Prior to being awarded the JAR ME-IR Multi Engine / Instrument Rating applicants must have:

70 hours as pilot-in-command |

50 hours PIC cross-country flight time |
|
|
Hold a Flight Radiotelephony Operator’s Licence |
Flying Time offers an extremely competitive and comprehensive ME-IR course package. We do not require candidates to pay for the course up front. You may pay on a pay-as-you-go basis.
